DIY giants Homebase will close 33 stores this month, as the embattled brand fights for its future. The home improvement and DIY chain’s collapse into administration last year put 74 stores and approximately 2,000 jobs in jeopardy.
Hilco Capital, the firm that snapped up Homebase for a mere quid in 2018, called in administrators Teneo after racking an £84million loss for the year ending January 2023.
Homebase’s boss, Damian McGloughlin, said at the time: “It has been an extremely difficult three years for the house and backyard enchancment market. My precedence is and continues to be our workforce members, and I recognise that this information will likely be unsettling for them.”

More than 70 of the stores have been bought by CDS with many turned into The Range store. The parent company of The Range and Wilko acquired the Homebase brand, IP, and up to 70 stores, leaving around 50 stores remaining.
Last month rivals B&Q agreed to purchase five branches, leaving an estimated 58 stores which could either be sold or closed. This leaves the fate of 49 stores still uncertain.
At the time of administration, Homebase had 3,600 employees. Staff are currently being consulted and supported as negotiations continue.
