Floridians are having to be warned not to “feed or molest” alligators, sparking a frenzied online debate.
In a social media post doing the rounds, an Instagram page called Florida Man shared a picture of a sign with a rather baffling set of instructions. “Don’t feed or molest” was the order, next to a picture of an alligator. The sign added: “Gators can not be tamed and feeding them can result in them mistaking a hand for a handout. Florida law prohibits the feeding or molesting of alligators.”
“In what world would I feed an alligator?” the submit’s creator wrote. However – it’s not the “feeding” half that’s the problem, many individuals’s jaws dropped on the thought Floridians wanted to be informed to not “molest” the lethal creatures.

“I’ve seen those signs before i wanna meet the person that made them install those,” said one person underneath the post.
“That means a Florida man has successfully done it,” wrote another commenter.
So, this all begs the question: are men from Florida having sex with alligators?
Although a number of tales have emerged over time supposedly detailing males from the Sunshine State partaking in bestial relations with crocodiles, all of them have ultimately been dubbed “fake”.

In 2015, a story did the rounds on media sites claiming that a man named Rupert Darwin, 59, kept a 12-foot alligator tied and blindfolded during the act of lovemaking.
The post claimed the man was arrested by local police, forcing Collier County Sheriff’s Office into a rebuttal. “This story appears to be gaining traction on social media, however do not consider it,” authorities wrote on a Facebook post. “It’s as faux as crocodile tears.”
There have been a number of different tales, however all of them have happily been debunked.

On a Reddit post where someone asked “why are there so many signs in Florida telling people not to molest alligators?”, someone cleared up the debate, reminding everyone there are different definitions of the word “molest”.
“I can only assume that you don’t know that “molest” is just another word for “bother” and only recently took on its more sexual connotation,” mentioned the Redditor.
“Alligators don’t move much, so some people think it’s a good idea to throw rocks and stuff at them to make them react. That’s considered molestation and causes the animals stress,” wrote one other particular person.
