Concerns within Donald Trump’s campaign team escalated when it became known that Iran might have been plotting to assassinate him, raising fears about the safety of his transportation.
The apprehension grew significant enough that Trump opted to travel in an alternative aircraft rather than his well-known “Trump Force One” during one specific event, as detailed in an upcoming book chronicling Trump’s political ascent.
While engaging in his presidential campaign last year, Federal law enforcement alerted Trump and his associates about alleged Iranian agents residing within the U.S., equipped with surface-to-air missile technology, posing a serious threat against him.
Following a close call involving a nearly successful assassination attempt at his Florida golf resort, security measures were intensified. The Secret Service advised that he should fly on a decoy plane owned by businessman Steve Witkoff while allowing some staff members to stay aboard Trump Force One—much to their dissatisfaction.

The distress among staff stemmed from fears of being “collateral damage” if Iranian operatives targeted the flight. Despite these fears, campaign leaders reassured them they would not be used as “bait.”
This information comes from Alex Isenstadt’s forthcoming book entitled Revenge: The Inside Story of Trump’s Return to Power.
Longstanding Security Concerns Related to Iran
The anxiety over possible Iranian threats targeting Trump has lingered since he authorized an airstrike that resulted in the death of Qassem Soleimani—a senior commander in Iran’s military—back in 2020.
Public Knowledge of Assassination Plot
The supposed plot to eliminate Trump was disclosed publicly last November when officials from the Justice Department revealed they had intercepted intelligence regarding this scheme. However, Iranian authorities have denied these allegations vehemently.

Top details show increasing worries around national security.
The recent attempts at violence—the foiled assassination effort outside Butler, Pennsylvania during July 2024 and another curtailed plan slated for September 2024 concerning Florida—intensified existing security anxieties surrounding Trump’s public appearances.
On the day where chosen flight paths diverted attention away from him entirely by design—and shortly before departure—it became clear staff would not fly alongside their future president; they discovered that he had taken off comfortably ensconced elsewhere instead.”
Political consultant Chris LaCivita recalled how preparing staffers via alternate plans resembled scenarios essential training far beyond usual expectations: “This was essentially a rehearsal for what may unfold going forward,” he remarked.
Staff members later recounted their experience aboard what felt surreal amid unintentional dark humor circulating widely throughout any frequent exchanges transpired en route.
